CUR’s MCS Division Announces New Name

On September 13, 2022, the Council on Undergraduate Research’s (CUR) Executive Board moved to approve the submitted name rephrasing to the formerly known Mathematics and Computer Sciences Division effective immediately. The approval comes with a Divisional name change: the Mathematical, Computing, and Statistical Sciences Division (MCS).

Celebrating CUR Division 2022 Awardees

The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) recognizes its divisional award recipients for the first half of 2022. CUR’s community aligns across its thirteen divisions including, At-Large, Arts and Humanities, Biology, Chemistry, Education, Engineering, Geosciences, Health Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Psychology, Social Sciences, and Undergraduate Research Programs.​

The CUR Mathematics and Computer Sciences Division announces the 2021 recipients of its Faculty Mentor Awards, which honor mentors for their success in mentoring undergraduate researchers:

2021 Posters on the Hill Spotlights Exemplary Undergraduate Research Projects for Policymakers, Scholars, and the Public

On April 27–28, undergraduate students from colleges and universities in 42 states and the District of Columbia will participate in the 2021 Posters on the Hill event, sponsored by the Council on Undergraduate Research. In a virtual public poster session on April 28 from 2–4 pm ET, undergraduate researchers and their mentors from institutions such as Edmonds College and Grinnell College to Norwich University and Penn State University will share their research projects.

CUR Math/CS Division Selects 2020 Faculty Mentor Awardees

Chellamuthu (Dixie State University), Neilan (Duquesne University), and Otto (UW-Eau Claire recognized for outstanding mentoring of undergraduate researchers in mathematics/computer sciences.

Steven J. Miller Selected as 2020 CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee

Steven J. Miller, professor of mathematics at Williams College, has been selected as the 2020 Council on Undergraduate Research-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee. The award consists of a plaque and $5,000 for the awardee’s research program and/or undergraduate researchers.

Michael Dorff (BYU), George C. Shields (Furman U) Honored as 2020 CUR Fellows

Michael Dorff (Brigham Young University) and George C. Shields (Furman University) are the latest Fellows of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) to be honored for their leadership and service as role models for those involved in undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities.
