NCUR 2021 @Home Volunteers: Reviewers
For the first time in its history, the CUR National Office is both implementing and hosting the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in 2021. NCUR will be delivered as a virtual experience in 2021, and while we are extremely excited for the potential of this digital experience, we are also in great need of your help. NCUR receives thousands of student abstracts in all academic disciplines every year, and we anticipate this year to be no different.
If you are an administrator, faculty member, or a graduate student you will be eligible to review student abstracts for NCUR 2021. If you are an undergraduate student who wishes to volunteer in some capacity for NCUR you may also fill out the survey and we will contact you about other potential volunteer opportunities.
Frequently Asked Questions From Reviewers
When will I need to review?
There will be two review periods that correspond with two deadlines:
- For "early decision" submissions, the review period will be November 9 - November 30, 2020. We anticipate a smaller number of submissions during this time.
- For all other submissions, the review period will be December 9, 2020 - January 2, 2021.
You will be asked to review during either time, however if you absolutely cannot review during one of those time frames, please make note within the survey.
What is the process for completing reviews and how long can I expect this to take?
Reviews for NCUR entail reading a 250-350 word abstract, rating the abstract on a Likert scale (1-5), and inserting comments for abstracts rated below a 3. An instructions document will be sent out along with review assignments later this fall.
We anticipate approximately 5-7 minutes per abstract review. We will do our best to keep your load as light possible.
Is there anything else I should know?
CUR membership is NOT a requirement for being an NCUR reviewer – anyone who is passionate about undergraduate research is invited! We are hoping to have 400-500 reviewers so please feel free to share this opportunity with your colleagues! Faculty, staff, and graduate students are encouraged to sign up as reviewers.
CUR will ensure you do not review any abstract from your own institution.
