Description: Research abroad programs for undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics provide high-impact learning experiences, but little has been done to assess the scientific and cultural gains of participants. This article compares the learning gains of 10 students who
participated as a group conducting research in the Czech Republic with the learning gains of 10 solo students who participated in research abroad and 117 students who participated in research at U-Arizona.
