Council on Undergraduate Research Announces Award for Excellence
in Undergraduate Research
Campus-wide Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishments (AURA)
Washington, D.C. - The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) announces the call for nominations for the first CUR Campus-wide Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishment (AURA).  This annual award will recognize institutions that have devised exemplary programs providing high-quality research experiences to undergraduates.  The award was modeled on the organization’s Characteristics of Excellence in Undergraduate Research, a document that describes criteria for excellent undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity programs.
The award will not only require campuses to have depth and breadth in their undergraduate research initiatives, but evidence of innovation of a sustained nature.  Nominations are open to all types of higher-education institutions, and up to three awards will be made recognizing institutions from different Carnegie classification groups.  "As The Voice of Undergraduate Research, CUR takes pride in offering support and recognition to ensure that all undergraduates have high-quality research opportunities that offer them engaging and beneficial experiences.  We hope our leadership efforts in creating the COEUR publication, and now in establishing the AURA Program, will allow for greater sharing of best practices across all types of institutions.  It is our intent to help broaden the impact that undergraduate research can have through out higher education now, and in the future."
The award recipients will be announced in October 2015 and honored at a special ceremony in 2016.
