The
Council on Undergraduate Research has initiated a Registry of
Undergraduate Researchers. The
purpose of this registry is to facilitate matchmaking between
undergraduates with research experience and a desire to pursue an advanced
degree, and graduate schools seeking high quality students who are well
prepared for research. Currently
the Registry is open to students and graduate schools/employers in nearly
all fields.
Any undergraduate may go to www.cur.org/ugreg/
to fill out a simple curriculum vitae form. There
is no charge to the student. Student
information records will be made available to bona fide graduate
schools that contract with CUR for this service. Organizations or companies seeking the students’ information for
other marketing purposes will not be granted access.
Subscription fees paid to access the
registry will be used to support CUR’s Student travel for research
presentations. An academic
department or corporate division may sign on to receive the data for one
disciplinary field for $300 per year.
The institution-wide annual
subscription fee is $1,500. A discount is available to
institutional members.
The Undergraduate Researchers Database will
contain a list of our institutional subscribers, if they wish to be
listed. Graduate schools may provide a link to their websites, and may
provide a short description of opportunities, such as research fields and
fellowships. It will also be
possible for institutions to place an ad on the database website if the
content is related to the mission of CUR and the Undergraduate Registry.
We hope that you will urge your
undergraduate students who are currently in their JUNIOR OR SENIOR YEAR to register
now, for we need a critical mass of student registries to make this
project a success. They will be able to update their listing at the end of the
summer, to include any summer research experience or information
about Senior Theses or test scores. The
undergraduate registry can be accessed at www.cur.org/ugreg. We also welcome submissions by students who are engaged in
Masters' Degree programs now but who plan on going on to a PhD program.
Just fill out the information on the form including the date you intend to
enter a PhD program and your date of completion of your undergraduate
degree. Attach a CV that contains complete information about your MS
degree activity (school, subject, thesis topic (if applicable),
advisor).
If you would like to become a Graduate School user of the database, please
register at https://www.cur.org/ugreg/reg2.asp.
If your whole school wants access and you are going to pay the $1,500, an
Institutional Administrator (or delegate of an administrator) should
register first. That person will have access to the whole
database. After registering the administrator should notify
department chairs that they can begin registering. Department chairs
can register their own department in the event the school does not want to
support an institutional subscription. The cost per departmental
subscription is $300.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PERSON REGISTERING
SHOULD HAVE A PURCHASE ORDER AVAILABLE TO ENTER INTO THE REGISTRATION
PAGE, WHICH CUR WILL THEN BILL THE SCHOOL AGAINST. After registering
you will receive an email with a user name and password. The
password will not be activated until payment is received at the CUR
National Office.
EACH DEPARTMENT MUST REGISTER IN ORDER TO
GAIN ACCESS INTO THE DATABASE - EVEN IF THE SCHOOL HAS REGISTERED FOR AN
INSTITUTIONAL SUBSCRIPTION. There is a selection for $0 under the
registration page for those departments registering under their
institutional subscription.
CUR believes that this service will benefit
both students and graduate schools/employers by narrowing the search for
the right match. We welcome
comments about this program.
