STEM Education and “Maker” Caucus Briefing to Feature Undergraduate Research:  Monday, June 15, 2015 – Rayburn B-340

The Council on Undergraduate Research, ASME,  SAE International, and the House “Maker” and STEM Education Congressional caucuses are co-hosting a Congressional Briefing on June 15th at noon in Rayburn B340 entitled “Making a Maker”.  Piggybacking on the momentum of the Capitol Hill Maker Faire and the National Maker Faire taking place this week, this briefing is intended to highlight the current popularity of “Making” and talk about the skills and knowledge necessary to not only create a Maker but also to help move them to industry later in life.  We will have speakers from academia that can highlight current programs, speakers from industry to talk about future skills and where they see gaps, and those from other organizations that can talk about workforce training being developed to bridge the skills gap. Dr. Nathalia Peixoto, Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at George Mason University (a CUR Enhanced Member Institution) will be presenting on undergraduate engineering research, and representing CUR.
