The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is sponsoring the NASA-USRP to offer undergraduates across the United States theoretical and applied research experiences at NASA Centers during two sessions. Ten-week summer sessions and fifteen-week fall sessions will be available for 2002. The USRP provides students with a technical mentor and excellent hands-on experience. Students receive weekly stipends of $500, plus a round-trip travel allowance. The pilot program conducted during 2001 successfully placed 107 undergraduates at NASA Centers. It is anticipated that the number of student placements will be close to 120 in 2002.
The Virginia Space Grant Consortium administers the program with collaboration and support from the Council on Undergraduate Research, the Space Grant Foundation, the National Society of Black Engineers, and the American Association of Community Colleges.
