The
Council on Undergraduate Research is proud to be a partner with the
Virginia Space Grant Consortium in the development and administration of
NASA's Undergraduate Student Research Program (USRP). CUR is helping to
publicize the program and has produced a new booklet, "How To Mentor
Undergraduates", for use in the program. Also available now in an edition for faculty mentors. CUR is also
assisting the Va. Space Grant Consortium in the development of a handbook
for students who go to an off campus site for an intensive research
experience.

NASA is seeking undergraduate students from diverse communities who are interested in a challenging
research experience at a NASA center . 10-week Summer sessions and 15-week Fall sessions will
available. Aligned with NASA’s research and development mission, the USRP
program provides students with a technical mentor and excellent hands-on experience. Students will
receive weekly stipends of $500, plus round-trip travel allowance.
The USRP program seeks to extend and strengthen NASA’s commitment to educational excellence and university
research.
Eligibility
Students must meet the following eligibility requirements to participate in NASA’s Undergraduate Student Research
Program:
- Must be classified as a rising junior or senior after Spring 2004 semester /quarter
- U.S. Citizenship
- Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited U.S. College or University (community
college students may apply, however placement is contingent on matriculation into a four-year institution)
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0
- Eligible fields of study are academic majors or demonstrated coursework or concentration in engineering, mathematics,
compute science or physical/life science
- Demonstrated strong interest/commitment to one of the above career fields or disciplines (e.g.,
science/math/engineering fairs, clubs or awards; tutoring/mentoring; internships or other elated
experience)

NASA-USRP is managed for NASA by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium with support from
Space Grant Foundation, Council on Undergraduate Research, National Society of Black Engineers, and
American Association of Community Colleges.
