The workshop will bring
together teams of three to five faculty members and administrators from
institutions that are interested in creating or modifying current faculty
development programs to reflect the need to continue to emphasize the
faculty development of post-tenure faculty. The three days will consist of plenary lectures presented by
facilitators associated with CUR interspersed with individual team meetings
with CUR mentors. Nancy Mills
from Trinity University (nmills@trinity.edu)
will coordinate the Institute.
The workshop will begin with several plenary
sessions focused on the evolution of faculty careers including the role of
the institution in encouraging/rewarding faculty development post-tenure and
the use of post-tenure reviews for both faculty development and assessment.
Other plenary sessions on strategies for individual faculty development,
such as the use of research collaborations and sabbaticals and using
pedagogy as a vehicle for faculty development are interspersed with breakout
sessions and meetings between the participating teams and facilitators.
Institutional plans for the creation of a faculty development program that
emphasizes the continuing growth of post-tenure faculty are the goal of the
institute.
