Description: Among the challenges for undergraduate research at a community college is space. For faculty in the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) system, this problem was solved in an unexpected way that also provided a “teaching moment.” The Physical Sciences Department at Truman College had undergone a renovation that produced two new chemistry laboratories focused on active learning. This meant that the unrenovated
lab space was available for the high-altitude ballooning research project.
