CUR Exec Officer Responds to 2018 Federal Budget Proposal, Urges Sharing of Member Stories of Success

Said CUR Executive Officer Elizabeth L. Ambos:

The preliminary 2018 federal budget proposal presents devastating cuts to research agencies and the vital student aid programs that support undergraduate research. CUR opposes this budget  because it would significantly hamper the invaluable contributions of undergraduate research, from discoveries to jobs and the benefit to local economies. However, a president's budget is just a recommendation. CUR will continue to work with its allies to bolster the bipartisan support of Congress for research across all disciplines. Over the next few weeks, we will be surveying our members to tell us where the impacts will fall hardest and to share your stories of success. We welcome your thoughtful comments, sent to cur@cur.org. Please use the subject line “2018 Federal Budget Impacts” and tell us what these proposed budget cuts may mean to undergraduate research success.
