This website includes the logistical information for the 2012 conference.
In this day-long symposium we plan to explore how undergraduate research effects change in Higher Education, and how a variety of changes in Higher Education affect undergraduate research. Under this umbrella theme we have identified some subthemes including:
  • Students as change agents;
  • Undergraduate research generating transformative learning;
  • The role of undergraduate research in curriculum renewal;
  • The influence of technological changes on undergraduate research;
  • The influence of changing student demographics on undergraduate research; and
  • Supporting and sustaining UR in times of times of fiscal challenge.
The expected outcomes for participants in this day include:
  • A raised awareness of the possibilities of undergraduate research to transform both student and institutional learning;
  • Consideration of how technology can support and enhance undergraduate research;
  • Practical advice regarding how to change a curriculum to embed undergraduate research;
  • The sharing and showcasing of good practice in undergraduate research;
  • The facilitation of networks amongst staff and students interested in undergraduate research; and
  • The option of joining a collaborative group to continue working on undergraduate research.

In addition, workshop attendees will be invited to present posters highlighting undergraduate research efforts on their own campuses. Information regarding submission instructions and deadlines is available online.

Registration fee: $140 for faculty and $120 for students (pre-conference registrants will receive a $40 discount towards ISSOTL registration)

Posters

We are interested in posters about undergraduate research and inquiry, focused on the three themes of the symposium:

  • Providing undergraduate research opportunities and collaborations across international boundaries
  • Building research experiences into first-year and introductory courses
  • Transforming curricula to include research and inquiry

Posters should not exceed 48 inches wide by 48 inches tall. They should include Title, Author(s), name of institution(s), and a brief summary.

For technical specifications, please visit the poster page. The Posters are a key aspect of the seminar and we hope that many attendees will produce a poster for the website and the Hamilton event.
