Weber State University is well-known as one of Utah’s premier public, undergraduate universities. Our campus has a long history of involving undergraduates in research. However, it is only within the last five years that a campus-wide initiative was developed to foster and enhance this faculty-student collaboration. Undergraduate research has now grown within each of our seven colleges to become part of the campus culture. In the fall of 2004, WSU President Ann Millner created the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR). Each year this office provides over $100,000 in funding for competitive student research grants and travel grants for research dissemination. In addition, OUR hosts a campus-wide symposium showcasing student research and publishes Ergo, a research journal edited and authored by student researchers. Our faculty have also secured and implemented two National Science Foundation - Research Experience for Undergraduates grants; one in Biology and one in Psychology. Four WSU faculty have been elected councilors to CUR and 39 of our faculty and administrators are current CUR members. For each of the past three years, WSU students and their faculty mentors have been
selected to participate in CUR’s Posters on the Hill. Faculty, staff
and the administration at WSU are truly committed to promoting high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research on our
campus.
The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) provides support, education and leadership for the Undergraduate Research initiative at WSU.
OUR’s mission is to strengthen and enhance the learning environment at Weber State University by engaging and mentoring students as researchers and scholars within and across the disciplines and while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
We encourage conference participants to use this meeting as a jumping off point to explore the American West. Utah boasts five national parks, more than any other state in the lower 48, as well as eight national monuments and 48 state parks In addition, Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are just a (gorgeous) day's drive away. Participants, their families and guests will find a community teeming with fun activities, beautiful mountain vistas and sites of both biological and historical significance. Ogden was listed by Sunset Magazine as the city with the “Best Access to the Outdoors.” The landscape is spectacular and provides plenty of activities for the extreme enthusiast or someone just looking for a nice walk.
