Field Trips
All trips 12:30-5 pm on Saturday, June 21.
For participants not covered by councilor's meal plan, box
lunches are available for purchase at $7.
St. John's Arboretum:
Guided walking tour of Arboretum woods,
wetlands, prairie and restored oak savannah. Weather and
abilities permitting, participants can also choose to canoe or
swim at Lake Sagatagan. Transportation to St. John's
campus is included. Cost $15.
Mississippi River Canoe Trip:
Guided canoe paddle down 7 mi. of the Mississippi River from St.
Cloud to Clearwater through the Beaver Islands. This
scenic portion of the river is home to abundant wildlife
including bald eagles, belted kingfisher, beaver, great blue
heron, and endangered river otters. No canoeing experience
needed but swimming ability is highly recommended.
Transport to St. Cloud State University landing and return from
Clearwater is included. Cost $38.
Hill Museum and Manuscript Library and
St. John's Abbey and University:
The Hill Museum & Manuscript
Library preserves manuscripts, printed books and art at Saint
John's University and undertakes photographic projects in
regions throughout the world. HMML is home to the world's
largest collection of manuscript images, many medieval rare
books, and of The Saint John's Bible, a handwritten, illuminated
Bible. The museum is described at http://www.hmml.org.
Participants will also tour St. John's Abbey with its marvelous
church built by Marcel Breur. Transportation to St. John's is
included. Cost $15.
Munsinger
Gardens and historic St. Cloud:
Guided bus tour
of historic Victorian and Craftsman era homes in the St. Cloud
area, a behind the scenes tour of the restored 1921 Paramount
Theater and its community arts center, followed by a walking
tour of Munsinger Gardens along the Mississippi River. The
Clemens Rose Garden with its 1,100 roses, the White and
Four-Color Gardens, and stunning perennial and water gardens lie
beneath towering hemlock and red pines. Transportation is
included. Cost $20.
