Plenary Panel:
Partnerships
to Advance Undergraduate Research: Using Organizational
Initiatives to Influence Institutional Agenda
Moderator: Dr. James Gentile, President
of Research Corporation Panelists: Carol
Geary Schneider, President, Association of American Colleges and
Universities; George Mehaffy, Vice President for Academic Leadership
and Change, American Association of State Colleges and Universities;
Elizabeth Hollander, Executive Director, Campus Compact; and Jillian
Kinzie, Associate Director for Post Secondary Research and National
Survey of Student Engagement Institute
Many
campuses are engaged in service learning, are responding to calls for
civic engagement and student engagement in learning. Faculty
sometimes see these initiatives as competing for faculty time and
attention. This panel will discuss the various initiatives of
each organization that focus on undergraduate research and
address mechanisms by which these efforts might be used to complement
and support one another.
