CUR Chemistry Undergraduate Student Travel Awards for 2005
  The Chemistry Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research is pleased to announce its 2005 recipients of the CUR Chemistry Undergraduate Student Travel Award for the presentation of research results at the Spring 2005 American Chemical Society National Meeting in San Diego. These awards, in the amount of $250 per student, recognize undergraduates nominated by their faculty research advisers for the high scientific merit of their research accomplishments. The four recipients presented their results in the Undergraduate Poster Session sponsored by the Division of Chemical Education.
Leighanne Brammer Leighanne Brammer

a junior biochemistry major at Stonehill College working with Professor Louis J. Liotta, presented her poster: "The conversion of L-glucose, D-galactose, and D-allose to vinyl pyrrolidines, and the subsequent synthesis of polyhydroxylated pyrrolidines".

Laura Ingalls Laura Ingalls

a senior chemistry major at Stonehill College conducting research with Professor Maria A. Curtin, presented her poster: “Quantitative determination of aluminum using Al-27 NMR: An undergraduate analytical chemistry experiment”.

Sarah Sher Sarah Sher

a senior chemistry major at Southewestern University and collaborating with Professor Emily D. Niemeyer presented her poster: “Effect of UV exposure to PET water bottles: Monitoring the migration of phthalate ester plasticizers”.

Ryan Smith Ryan Smith

a junior biochemistry major at Stonehill College working with Professor Leon J. Tilley, presented his poster: “Isotope effects in solvolysis of alpha-trifluoromethyl gamma-silyl systems”.
