| Bridget Gourley
received a BS in chemistry and mathematics from University of Puget Sound
in 1984 and Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Utah in
1989. Immediately following the defense of her dissertation she
joined the faculty at DePauw University, a private 4-year liberal arts
college in the Midwest. With the start of AY 94-95, she was tenured
and promoted to Associate Professor. During the past 10 years, 11
students have worked with Prof. Gourley on a variety of research
projects. Some of her students have presented posters at regional
conferences such as the Midwest Theoretical Chemistry Conference, and
Prof. Gourley has presented their work at APS meetings. The majority
of her research is in the area of theoretical studies of laser-molecule
interactions. Two of her students have worked on the kinetics and
thermodynamics of the Mitsuonbu reaction. Prof. Gourley has worked
on NSF funded projects and has received funding for her work and students
from the Pew Charitable Trust, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, DePauw
University Faculty Development Fund and the DePauw University Science
Research Fellows Program. She has been a AWU Facutly Summer Fellow
at Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. In addition to her strong
interest in undergraduate research and teaching, Prof. Gourley has
co-coordinated a new first-year advising program at DePauw and
co-developed and co-coordinated an extensive Women in Science program at
DePauw which includes significant outreach to junior high school age
students. Prof. Gourley has served as a CUR Chemistry Councilor for
the past three years. In this role she has led workshops at our
National Conference and is current chair of the Publications Committee. |
