Lawrence, received a B.S. in Chemistry as well as a Ph.D. in Physical
Chemistry from the University of California at Irvine. She was a Camille
and Henry Dreyfus Teaching/Research Fellow at Wellesley College where she
worked with Nancy Kolodny and Mary Allen. She then held a faculty position
at the Joint Science Department of the Claremont Colleges from 1993 to
1997 when she accepted a position in the Chemistry Department at Eastern
Illinois University. Her teaching interests are in the fields of general
chemistry and physical chemistry. Although in graduate school she worked
in laser spectroscopy and photochemistry, she has shifted my field of
research to the biological and medical applications of nuclear magnetic
resonance. Her current research projects involve studies of spider silk
and of the metabolism of freeze-tolerant animals. Both research projects
have involved collaborations with biologists and physicists as well as
undergraduates. With her collaborators, she has been funded twice by the
NSF-CRUI program for the spider silk work. At Eastern, she has been on
numerous departmental and university-wide committees, including service as
chair of the Council on Faculty Research and as a member of the Council on
Undergraduate Research and Faculty Senate. She has been a member of CUR
since her days as a postdoctoral fellow. She has attended several CUR
national meetings where she has presented a poster and helped to present a
workshop. She has also authored an article for the CUR Quarterly on
collaborative, interdisciplinary research with undergraduates. |
